Book: Sir Andrew and the Authoress
Author: Sally Britton
My Rating: 4 Funny Stars
Hey bookworms, it’s the month of loooooove! I have the cutest regency romantic comedy for you this week! I’ve reviewed several of Sally Britton’s books here in the past and this one is probably my favorite so far.
This story is third in a series, and it focuses on Josie (daughter of a Duke) and Andrew (friend of the family – more like actual family). Josie wants to be a writer, but that is a very controversial aspiration for a young lady. So she keeps it a secret. Andrew has been taken under the Duke’s wing since his own father died, and has become fast friends with the Duke’s son, Simon. Because of this he has always seen Josie as his best friend’s little sister…until he doesn’t. When Simon invites a school friend to visit and start courting Josie, Andrew abruptly realizes his feelings toward her. And he PANICS.
Honestly, when I started reading this one I was sort of expecting angst? Maybe a bit of pining? I was delighted to realize this was a romcom – heavy on the com. Andrew and Josie have the absolute BEST banter. Their constant bickering over the slightest things was so adorable and funny. I loved that they both slowly realized their arguing wasn’t a sign of hate, but of *love.* And neither of them knew what to do about those new feelings. Add in the fact that Andrew had to watch a friend try to woo her and it was pure gold.
I found Andrew to be a perfect mix of gentleman and goofball. He wasn’t afraid to protect Josie, but he also wasn’t too proud to look like a fool to see her smile. I loved him for that. Then there was Josie, intelligent and quick witted. She was so caught up in trying to win arguments with Andrew that she was slow to realize there might be something more to their relationship. I am often frustrated by female characters, but I thought she was perfectly written.
The story was, in a word, charming. I read it in a matter of hours and wished it wasn’t over. It’s a great read leading up to Valentine’s Day!
