Shane Knight announced his intent to run for Benton City Council, in Ward 4, Position 2, in the general election November 3, 2020. James Herzfeld is the incumbent in the position, but has not yet announced for re-election. Knight’s announcement follows:
Shane Knight, Executive Director of Solid Waste and Recycling for the Southeast Arkansas Economic Development District and the Southeast Arkansas Solid Waste Management Board, today announced his candidacy for Ward 4, Position 2 on the Benton City Council.
Knight, a resident of Benton for fourteen years, says that Benton brings to the table the highest quality education system, superb public services, along with parks and outdoor activities that continue to attract new residents and enhances the quality of life.
“The city of Benton has experienced an influx of major growth due to a future-friendly environment for which the previous and current administration has worked hard. I look forward to bringing to the table a skill set of management, problem solving, and teamwork, and working with our current Mayor and Council to enhance our quality of life here in Benton even more.”
Knight previously served Saline County as the Environmental Officer for Recycle Saline as well as former Chairman of the Saline County Republican Committee. Knight also served as a volunteer coach with the Benton Youth Sports Association and as a volunteer with Benton Matters. Knight was also the “Voice of the Benton Panthers,” for six seasons and host of the Morning News on KEWI 690 AM. He was also a member of the Circle K Kiwanis of Benton.
“As we continue to grow, the vital elements to our continued success include improving and maintaining our infrastructure from our streets to our sewer system, along with storm water and maintaining our top-notch police and fire departments. We must also continue to forge a healthy working relationship with Benton Utilities. All of this is crucial to moving Benton forward and positioning the city to handle this growth with greater ease.”
Knight, 43, is married to Andrea Knight. They have three children: Christian 17, Natalie, 14, and Lakin 9. They are members of Highland Heights Baptist Church in Benton. Knight graduated from Williams Baptist University with a Bachelor in Psychology and has earned his Ed.D and Ph.D. Knight also serves as an adjunct professor for the Arkansas Environmental Training Academy at Southern Arkansas University Tech and sits on the advisory board for the Academy.
