The Ralph Bunche Neighborhood Association (RBNA) and the Benton Police Department first annual Kicktoberfest is scheduled October 30th at 3 pm at Ralph Bunche Park, 1300 S. East Street in Benton.
Kicktoberfest is a “Back the Blue” kickball event designed to show support for law enforcement in Benton. The family-friendly event will include goodwill competitive games of kickball, hot dogs and music. The general public is invited to attend the free event.
Individuals and organizations wishing to enter teams into the event have until October 24th to register. Teams of 8-11 persons may register for $40 by contacting Robin Freeman at 501-776-7475 or email [email protected] or contact Sgt. Lisa Stuart at 501-860-2611 or [email protected]. All funds raised will support the RBNA Youth Council.
After a recent community meeting with law enforcement to discuss improving community relations, RBNA members Sha’Nell Beaugard, Vincent Robinson, Shannon Winston, Deanna Watts, Linda Smith and Robin Freeman developed Kicktoberfest as a way of bringing the community together and a way of expressing support of law enforcement. Members met with Sgt. Lisa Stuart and Detective Jamar Bennett to organize the first annual event.
“We believe that by developing strong community relationships and collaborative partnerships with law enforcement, we can promote greater public safety, address the underlying issues that contribute to crime, and help transform our respective organizations to more effectively respond to the needs of our communities,” said Freeman.
The mission of the RBNA is to unify the community, promote economic and community development and encourage pride and safety in the community. For more information, contact Freeman at 501-776-7475.
