Book: Love Practically
Author: Nichole Van
My Rating: 5 Angsty Stars
Hey bookworms! Nichole Van released a new book, so you know I’m here to once again shout her praises at anything with ears. She could publish her grocery list and I would probably give it five stars.
Love Practically is classic Nichole Van. Our main characters have a brilliant meet-cute. There’s tons of angst. Parts of it are funny. Parts of it are heart wrenching. There’s even the slightest hint of a mystery in there. In short, all the things I love about her writing are in this story. Plus!!! A “wretched” cat named Mr. Dandelion McFluffles (Mr. Dandy for short). I am a SUCKER for pets in books. Mr. Dandy honestly reminds me of my cat, Roxanne. You never know if she’s staring at you with love or with murderous intent.
I was surprised to find that I kind of disliked Fox, the male lead, for roughly half of the story. Typically, Nichole makes her main characters all VERY likable. Fox was a man with a tortured past, but he also was kind of a drunk loser for a little bit. This did not ruin the book for me, I was anticipating his character growth and enjoyed the journey from not really liking him to rooting for him. And bless Leah’s sweet suffering heart. She put up with a lot. What a saint. So many times while reading I wanted to knock some sense into Fox and tell him he did not deserve her. He figured that out on his own eventually.
It wasn’t quite as lighthearted as some of Nichole’s other books; however, Nichole is just as good at angst as she is at lighthearted. I wasn’t disappointed in the least! It was ultimately a sweet story of two people finding their way to happiness. Obviously, I’m highly recommending this one!
