It is with sorrow that we announce the passing of Raul Arcentales Santos – or just “Chico” as we knew him – the owner of Italy in Town. Chico was a business owner, a chef with impressive credentials and a father. His obituary is forthcoming. He was age 50 and a resident of Hot Springs, Arkansas.
Chico opened the Italian restaurant at 120 N. Market Street in downtown Benton in March 2018. Since then, many have come to love the cuisine offered. Chico strove to introduce Saline County to authentic recipes far beyond mainstream dishes.
Chico studied under chef Orazio Rosario Patti who owned the Sicilian restaurant Belle Arti that started in New York City, according to articles in Arkansas Democrat-Gazette and Napa Valley Register. That is where they met. When Patti came to Arkansas to open restaurants, Chico worked for him once again at the new Belle Arti now in Hot Springs.
Beyond his skill in the kitchen, Chico made lots of friends in the community. He will be missed by many.
A memorial fund has been set up by friends. Here is the link.
