The Saline County Regional Solid Waste Management District announced its Illegal Dumps Control Officer has begun issuing Environmental Citations to residents of Saline County who violate state and local solid waste laws and ordinances.
Michael Grappe, Executive Director said that these violations include “the open burning of any household trash, disposing of trash in an illegal manner, creating an illegal dump site, littering, and for trash hauling businesses, violating the states tarp law by not covering the waste load.”
The District Board, at its meeting on June 17, determined that these fines are necessary to reduce the unsightly and harmful practice of dumping trash on private and public property and along county roads.
For over a year, Mr. Grappe said, the District has been issuing warning citations for the purpose of educating residents of Saline County about the laws that protect the healthy environment of the State of Arkansas, Saline County and cities within the county. Now, the citations will result in a fine of up to $10,000.
