Book: A Proper Scandal
Author: Esther Hatch
My Rating: 3 Scandalous Stars
Hey bookworms! I recently read A Proper Scandal because I loved Manor For Sale, Baron Included so much I wanted to check out more of Esther Hatch’s work. I was not disappointed!
This was a cute story, and like Manor For Sale, I felt like this one could easily be adapted for a great movie. This story was more angsty than funny, but it did have the best despicable uncle character. If you read it, you’ll really hate him! I loved how Nate was such a gentleman, and how Grace really tested his resolve. I also thought it was interesting to see a male character struggling with self-worth issues. Both of our main characters had their fair share of baggage. I wish more of the characters had the same depth. I found myself wanting more details about the supporting cast. But there are more books in this series, so maybe if I keep reading I’ll get to know those characters better.
The entire scheme for Grace to “ensnare” a husband to save her family was entertaining, but when she basically laid out her plans in front of Nate, it became much more layered. However, it also became a lot more confusing. Does she want to be forced to marry Nate or not? In the end, I felt like the story kind of dragged by. Definitely one of those situations where they could have had a very frank conversation and cleared things up much quicker.
Despite the lackluster finish, I did enjoy this one! I read it from cover to cover in less than a day, and I’m already looking forward to reading the next one! I recommend this one if you’re looking for a dramatic, angsty, cute romance.
