The Hornets stuck it out for a win in their final have before post-season but it didn’t come easy.
The two things of note stand out from the 7A Central Conference clash between Bryant and Conway. First, the Bryant Hornets embody the “never quit” mentality. The Hornets trailed Conway 20 to 9 at the half then overcame 14 penalties, 4 turnovers and a very energetic home crowd to win the 7A Central Conference Championship 32-29.
Leading for only 21 seconds, the Hornets prove that it doesn’t matter how you start but how you finish.
While the 2021 version of the Bryant Hornets may not have star power, what they have is heart, grit and a supreme belief in each other.
Second, the AAA might want to use this game to critically examine in greater detail how they select and evaluate officials for meaningful games. It is unrealistic to expect perfection from any officiating crew, but to have a game called in such a one-sided manor is difficult to accept. Bryant was penalized 14 times, many at pivotal moments that extended drives for Conway and killing drives for Bryant. Conway was penalized only 3 times.
Next up is the 7A finals and the Hornets have a week off, as they are one of the four teams with a bye. Here’s the bracket:
