You may have been hearing about the special election coming up in August for the City of Bryant. Their campaign for it is called “Keep Bryant Moving.” I interviewed Bryant City Councilman Jerry Henson today to get help with understanding what it’s all about. The video and a synopsis are below.
Long story short:
The City of Bryant is asking residents to extend the bond that was voted for in 2006. The bond was due to be paid in 2031, but a population boom means it’s getting paid off more quickly than expected. The City has several issues to address, so they are asking to extend that bond from the original year 2031, for three extra years to 2034. That extension would pay for improvements in the Fire Department, Parks and Recreation and Streets. It’s possible that even that extra three years could be paid for early, considering the exponential growth of Bryant. However, they have to ask, so this election does that.
Basics:
- Taxes will not go up for Bryant residents because of this bond extension. Here’s a fact sheet from the City: https://www.mysaline.com/profiles/blogs/bryant-1608-special-election…
- There are 4 items to vote on.
-The 1st is to extend the bond.
-The 2nd, 3rd & 4th are for the three separate improvement categories.
-If you want improvement in any of the categories, vote yes on the 1st item. - Early voting begins August 2, 2016 and election day is August 9, 2016. Click for specifics about when/where to vote: https://www.mysaline.com/profiles/blogs/2016-elections
