I need help with my hamburger, but not like you might think. Even the term “hamburger menu” doesn’t quite clear it up. It’s actually is just making me hungry as I type. But the help I’m looking for is with a menu that consists of three little horizontal lines, and therefore – apparently – looks like a hamburger.
Since about 75% of MySaline’s viewers are on their mobile device, I’ll show you those screenshots first and then I’ll add the screenshots from the desktop version after that.
On MySaline, the hamburger menu looks like this picture above. When you tap on it, you get several choices. Two of those choices have a plus sign next to them.
In the picture below, the arrows point to the plus sign (+) to open the News menu and the Features menu.
Tap on a plus sign to open the submenu. See the News submenu below.
And the Features submenu is below.
Now that you’ve had a look at the menu and submenus, my question is… Are the right things under the right submenu?
- The News submenu allows you to pick from categories of news, like Mugshots, Court Filings, Jobs, Sex Offenders, etc.
- The Features submenu allows you to pick from resource pages like Elected Officials and Maps, or from one of MySaline’s several columnists.
I really want your opinion. I feel like some things could have their own submenu, but I also don’t want to have too many menu choices, simply because it can make the site look unorganized. Feel free to pick on the other submenus as well – and anything else on the website that you feel could improve. Get a sandwich first if you like.
You can leave a comment after the article, directly on the website, or head back to social media and give me your suggestions there. Thanks!
As promised, here are the screenshots for the desktop version as well:
It’s not a hamburger at all on the desktop version, as you can see above. But it’s the same menu, and that’s the part that needs advice. You can just hover on the News or Features items to get a drop-down submenu, or you can click to go to a page with the submenu items listed.
