Monday COVID Update: Hospital Beds at Three-Quarter Capacity; 227 Total Deaths

Here are some Key Notes, Statistics, and Video for Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson’s news update on the COVID-19 pandemic, along with updates and guidance from Dr. Nate Smith, Secretary of Health.

The Governor began with some charts to show progress of the virus in the state.

Governor Hutchinson and Secretary Smith made a few announcements today:

1. Total Hospital Bed Capacity in Arkansas – 8,917

71.4% occupied
28.6% available – 2,552

2. Total ICU Bed Capacity in Arkansas – 970

77.7% occupied
22.3% available – 222

3. Total Ventilator Capacity in Arkansas – 894

34.8% occupied
65.2% available – 583

4. Arkansas has the ability to expand hospital and ICU beds if needed

Dr. Smith listed the current statistics for COVID-19 patients below:

There are currently 16,083 cases (up 522)
• Of the 522 new cases – 124 in Washington County, 78 Benton Co, 85 Hot Spring Co
5,063 active cases (106 nursing homes, 642 correctional facilities, 4,315 community)
• 2% have said they visited restaurant or church, 0.4% barber shop or hotel, 0.2% gym in the past 14 days
• 13% in under 18 age group
• 14% 18-24
• 37% 25-44
• 26% 44-64
• 10% 65+
237 hospitalized (down 7)
227 deaths (up 2)
• 71% in 65+ age group
61 on ventilators (down 1)
10,793 recovered (up 337)
7,049 tests yesterday
• Overall positivity rate – 6.3%
