BENTON, AR – The Saline County Republican Committee does not condone or tolerate violence. As Chairman, when I called the meeting to order, I gave ground rules for the meeting and proper decorum, which included approaching the microphone to speak. The two women members were simply in line to speak. The first one motioned to end debate. She then turned around and bumped into the second one, and said “You do not want to do that with me.”
The second female replied, “I did not do anything,” and immediately returned to her seat because a vote to end debate would ordinarily have taken place next.
The individual who punched our member was neither a Saline County resident nor a member of SCRC. SCRC member Jon Newcomb has no history of violence. His mere size and stature is not a threat to anyone. A review of the video and multiple witness statements confirms that not only did Mr. Newcomb not hit Mr. Cavin, but Mr. Cavin was clearly the aggressor. At a time when we should be focused on opposing the radical left and getting President Trump and other Republicans elected up and down the ballot – we had an agenda item for last night’s meeting to distribute substantial funds to the candidates – it is sad that a certain agitator chose to cause chaos and disrupt the legitimate business of the committee.Â
