Speaking on behalf of the Democratic Party of Saline County, Chair Bailey Morgan stated the following regarding the events that occurred at last night’s Saline County Republican Committee meeting:
”The violent assault that occurred at last night’s SCRC meeting has left me incredibly disturbed and stunned. That this organization has fallen to such extremism as to not only permit an incident like this, but to remain silent and tacitly endorse it as a justified means of conveying a message should not only concern but disgust all voters in Saline County, regardless of partisan affiliation.
“For well over a year, the rhetoric coming from leaders, members, and elected officials representing the Saline County Republican Committee has been loaded with threatening and violent language. The extreme violence displayed at the SCRC during last night’s meeting is a clear escalation of the violent, hateful threats we have seen during that time, and to consider it a mere one-off incident would be an incredibly dangerous mistake. The fact is this: leadership in the Saline County Republicans has not only enabled, but encouraged the committee to fall deeper and deeper into violent extremism.
“Further, in attendance of last night’s violent spectacle were multiple currently-serving members of the Saline County Quorum Court, some of whom were caught on video idly watching the incident escalate up to the assault itself. None of these elected officials have, as of writing, publicly commented to even acknowledge, let alone condemn the aggressive behavior and violent assault that occurred during a meeting hosted by the party they represent.
”As a community, we cannot tolerate such extremism and violence committed by any organization or individuals like what we witnessed last night. The residents of Saline County are being forced to live in a county fully controlled by the party whose leadership normalized the violent, hateful environment that enabled such an assault. This is an unacceptable breach of the law and of ethics in every sense, and the leadership of the Saline County Republican Committee, as well as the candidates they have endorsed, must be held accountable to the fullest extent.”
