Gary Vice, age 56, on Friday was sentenced to 30 years in prison, and was ordered to report Monday, August 15, 2016, for transfer to custody of Arkansas Department of Corrections this morning and did so. Former correctional officer in Malvern and former Mayor candidate in Haskell, Gary Vice, age 56 of Benton, was charged over a year ago with sexual assault with a minor female. Court documents show that Vice forced the babysitter to have sex with him for the first time when she was 15 years old. Her mother was tipped off with a note from an acquaintance and then the investigation began.
Friday morning, August 12th, 2016, Circuit Court Judge Bobby McCallister presented a Guilty Plea Statement that Vice made. Prosecuting Attorney Rebecca Bush read a statement including all accusations, and the timeline of events. Vice agreed, based on those facts, that he knowingly and voluntarily is pleading guilty.
Vice plead guilty to 4 counts of Sexual Assault in the First Degree (Class A felony). The victim was able to address him and read her victim impact statement.
Judge McCallister sentenced Vice to 30 years for count 1, with 2 years suspended. And 30 years for counts 2-4 to run concurrent with the first. Vice was also issued a permanent No Contact Order with the victim and no unsupervised visits with any female under the age of 18.
Vice left the courtroom in handcuffs and will be held until an ankle monitor can be placed for the weekend. The monitor will be for his Benton address. He is to report Monday, August 15th, 2016 at 7 a.m. to be taken into custody. If Vice doesn’t show Monday his original bond will be revoked, the plea will be null and void and all previous charges (including the rape) will stand and he will face trial.

On Tuesday, May 19, 2015, at approximately 11:30 a.m., Saline County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) detectives arrested Gary Vice, white/male, 54 years of age, at the Arkansas Department of Corrections, Malvern Unit. Vice was charged, on a warrant, with 8 counts of Rape. The victim was a minor.
Vice is employed as Correctional Officer with the Arkansas Department of Corrections (ADC) and holds the rank of Corporal. Vice has been employed with the ADC for over one year. This investigation is ongoing. Currently, search and seizure warrants are being executed and depending on the evidence recovered, additional charges may be filed.
Sheriff Rodney Wright stated that any type of sexual assault investigation will receive specific attention, especially offenses which involve minors. Sheriff Wright stated that the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) of the Saline County Sheriff’s Office became active in this investigation on Sunday, May 17, 2015. Although the investigation is continuing, Sheriff Wright complimented the team of CID detectives for being able to make an arrest within 72 hours of being alerted of this crime.
Vice is incarcerated at the Saline County Jail and bond has been set at $25,000.
