The Museum structure itself, circa 1893, has an interesting history – the only known building to be made out of bauxite blocks, it used to be the office of Dr. Dewell Gann, Sr. and Dr. Dewell Gann, Jr. It has been on the National Register of Historic Places since 1975 and was converted to a museum in 1980.
Inside its walls are all sorts of Saline County treasures, from old photos and documents dating back to the 1800s… to beautiful examples of Niloak pottery that was produced in Benton for decades, using the unique multi-colored clay.
