Benton Mayor Tom Farmer released a statement on social media urging the youth of the community to practice social distancing to avoid contracting COVID-19 (Coronavirus).
“All over our nation, we see so many examples of people not taking it seriously from pictures of being on beaches, or gathering in parks, to whatever it is,” stated Farmer. “Now we find out that five positive cases of the Coronavirus from one gathering on one beach.”
On Sunday in Arkansas, there were more cases in the younger generations than there were for those over age 65, according to statistics from Governor Hutchinson’s news conference.
Current positive cases of COVID-19:
- 10 – children
- 93 – age 19-64
- 62 – over age 65
- 19 – hospitalized
- 12 – in the ICU
- 6 – on a ventilator
Farmer reasons, “This is the largest group because the people in this age group are very active and social. They are the ones that believe ‘I can go and not be affected,’ but how many of you are carriers that will give it to someone?”
