Benton Mayor Tom Farmer announced Thursday his run for re-election as Benton Mayor in 2022.
“I have been blessed with the opportunity to serve as the Benton Mayor. We, the Benton community, have accomplished so many things during my first term. We are ranked 2nd in the state of Arkansas in safety; 1st in the state of Arkansas in education thanks to the hard work of the school faculty,” says Mayor Farmer. “There is still much work to be done. We have an incredible team of city employees, council members and community volunteers; I will be honored to serve alongside them for another four-year term.”
“In the last few years, I have been focused on running the city of Benton as financially responsible as possible while still maintaining the high level of service that our city deserves. In my first year in office, we carried over a loss of $184,559, but ended 2019 carrying over just $30,892. I am very proud to say that halfway through 2021 we are sitting with our financial stability account with $1,117,045 as compared to start of 2019 that had just $473,506. The city continues to make progress operating in a financially positive direction as we currently have a 2021 balance of $3,639,769 in the black compared to 2019 when we finished with $1,653,230 in those accounts. I believe my leadership, experience and positive results uniquely qualify me to serve another term as Benton Mayor,” stated Mayor Farmer.
Mayor Farmer went on to say, “My focused strategy for the city of Benton is to improve the quality of life for our citizens. We are in the initial planning stages of making many significant improvements to the city such as improving our roads, our drainage, our quality of life with the addition of venues such as pickle ball and tennis courts, bike trails, soccer fields, campgrounds, increased river access, and nature trails. I want to see these projects started before I completely retire. I pray that the citizens of Benton agree let me serve again.” stated Mayor Farmer.
