A long-time resident of Bryant, McKeown serves as Chairman of the Bryant Parks & Recreation Committee and resides in the Westpointe neighborhood in Bryant. McKeown said he will continue to be “engaged, independent and responsive” in serving on the City Council.
“My wife Tracye and I invested our lives in Bryant more than 35 years ago. It’s been among the best decisions we could have made,” said McKeown. “All four of our adult children attended K-12 in the Bryant School District. All seven of our grandchildren have, are, or will be attending Bryant schools. But the excellence of our schools is only one reason our city has grown,” McKeown said. “Bryant has a great quality of life and a sense of community that is hard to find. We need to preserve and build on that moving forward and develop a strategic plan for growth and smart development,” said McKeown.
“As gratifying as it is to look back over the last 40 years, we need to focus on the next 40 years and what we want our city to look like moving forward,” said McKeown. “And Bryant has already made positive changes in that direction in recent months. We have new leadership in the Mayor’s office. We have new leadership at the Chamber of Commerce. We have a Master Plan in place for our parks system. Later this year the Bryant Parkway will be completed which will improve our connectivity and mitigate traffic issues on Reynolds Road.
“At the same time, we face challenges when it comes to infrastructure maintenance and expansion, and developing a sustainable and affordable water supply, all the while working within financial challenges. But these are the kind of challenges vibrant, growing cities face,” said McKeown. “Those which succeed over the long term are those that face them head on and develop innovative, affordable solutions. I am looking forward to being a part of that as a member of the City Council.”
McKeown has spent his career in communications and executive training. He is a former political and crime reporter, healthcare human resources director, and senior vice president at a leading marketing/communications firm. For the past 25 years, he has owned and operated his own executive communications and leadership training firm serving clients throughout the United States.
He is a graduate of Arkansas State University and is the author of two books. In addition to his service on the Bryant Parks & Recreation Committee, he was appointed to the Saline County Library Board of Trustees in 2023.
