The Arkansas Medical Marijuana Commission met on January 9, 2019 and picked 32 companies to each receive a permit to operate as a marijuana dispensary in the state. Lots of them are spread out around the state and it might be difficult for some patients to travel to one on a regular basis, but there will be one right here in Saline County. Here’s the full list of applicants. Only the top 32 scorers in the application process were picked. Scroll to the end for the map and locations.
At the southwest edge of Saline County, on the Sheridan Highway, a father-daughter partnership of Walter Koon and Kattie Hansen owns Native Green Wellness Center. It’s going to be a while before they get the doors open, but according to Koon, they have plans for a $2.6 million state-of-the-art facility at 26225 U.S. 167, Hensley, AR.
“We are excited that this will be an opportunity to help and employ those in our community. We know without a doubt the team and board that we have put together, and the doctors and pharmacist that we have partnered with, will ensure that this facility is run above state standards,” stated Koon.
Koon has had close experiences with those in need of an alternative to opiate-based medicine. “I have seen in my lifetime many family members and friends suffer from opiate and alcohol addiction. Knowing that cannabis will reduce overdose and death and allow those to help themselves with something organic, is an idea that I can align myself behind. This is medicine and will be treated and dispensed just as though any medicine would be in any given pharmacy.”
He’s also eager to grow the area by planting this business. “It has always been a great joy of mine to give back to local projects and events in our area. This is a community that we are all proud of and one that I want to see grow and flourish. That is why, it was so important to me, to allocate a percentage of net proceeds to go toward the betterment of our community.”
The Arkansas Department of Health current lists over 7,000 patients in the state that are waiting for dispensaries to open.
