Algimantas Staskevicius began his musical career at age of seven in Vilnius, Lithuania with the violin and piano. In 1983 he graduated from the M.K. Ciurlionis School of Fine Arts, and in 1990 he received a Master’s in Music from the Lithuanian State Conservatory.
From 1988 to 1991 he was a violinist with Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra. During that time, he performed at numerous concerts in the former Soviet Union and also abroad in: Poland, Germany, Netherlands, Spain, Italy, and Japan.
From 1992 to 1999, Mr. Staskevicius was a Principal Second at the Orquesta Sinfonica de la UANL in Monterrey Mexico. While in Mexico, he was founding member and first violinist of String Quartet Monterrey and became a finalist in a National Chamber music Competition in Salamanca, Mexico with String Quartet Dux. By 2001 a renowned Mexican conductor and composer, Sergio Cardenas, was impressed by his work and invited him to join the Filarmonica del Bajio in Guanajuato, Mexico.
Since his arrival in the U.S. in 1999, Mr. Staskevicius has also earned an M.M. degree from Southeastern Louisiana University. Between 1999-2001 he performed with the Acadiana Symphony Jefferson Performing Arts Society and was the Assistant Principal 2nd with the Batton Rouge Symphony. From 2001 to 2008 he held the first chair violin at the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra and was a strings teacher at Jackson Public Schools. Between 2002-2004 served as a Concertmaster of Mississippi Opera. In 2003 he served as visiting professor of violin/viola for undergraduate/graduate level students at University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg. In 2001 he joined Missouri Symphony Society, and from 2003 to 2016 he served as Associate Concertmaster of Hot Summer Nights Festival in Columbia, Missouri.
In addition to all of his time in state and local orchestras, he performed as a soloist in many orchestras, including but not limited to: Filarmonica del Bajio (Mexico), Orquesta Sinfonica de la UANL (Mexico), SLU Chamber Orchestra, Mississippi Symphony, Arkansas Symphony, and Missouri Symphony. He has participated in international festivals in Echternach, Schleswig-Holstein, Ansbach, Ivo Pogorelich, Cervantino, Alfonso Reyes.
Currently, he is an active member of the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra, Doppler String Quartet, also serving as the Associate Concertmaster Texarkana Symphony Orchestra and since 2012. He often is invited to join violin section of Symphony Orchestras in surrounding areas, such as Conway, Pine Bluff, El Dorado, Fort Smith, Fayetteville, and Tulsa.
Mr. Staskevicius is an avid educator, whose experience goes back as far as 1988. Since that time he taught extensively at school, college, and university levels in Lithuania, Mexico, and the USA. Currently, he has an expansive private studio and also teaches Strings at Arkansas School for the Blind.WAMA Arts Center in Little Rock, and the faculty of the Henderson State University (Arkadelphia, AR.)
Along with his wife, violist Tatiana Kotcherguina, Mr. Staskevicius performs in multiple concerts with diverse groups, from duo to nonet, most recently in Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, and Virginia.
