The Democratic Party of Saline County held their monthly meeting Monday, November 1st with Kwami Abdule-Bey as the guest speaker.
Abdule-Bey discussed the importance of election maps meeting the 1 person, 1 vote criteria.
He emphasized that fair and equitable maps should draw districts that resemble natural shapes and do not split counties, towns, or neighborhoods.
Abdule-Bey is a redistricting cartographer with the Arkansas Fair and Equitable Mapping Awareness, Planning and Action Team. Along with his wife, Clarice, he is also co-convenor of the Arkansas Peace & Justice Memorial Movement, an educational online memorial to commemorate the victims of lynchings in the State of Arkansas.
The Democratic Party of Saline County meets the first Monday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at their downtown headquarters, located at 101 S Market St. All interested are encouraged to attend.
