Where’s my Guy? When you get used to a local contact for a specific service, you may ask this question when you suddenly can’t find them. David Widel worked for his Father-in-law at “Buck’s Chimney Service” for almost 15 years. Not the business he expected to go into. Bob asked Dave to help him out part-time when he was on seasonal leave from another non-related company. It just worked out so well, he asked him to stay full-time. Dave moved to Arkansas after 8 years with the US Navy, and he never thought he would stay in Arkansas. Then he met his wife, and the rest is history. Sometimes things just fall into place and feel RIGHT.
For the better part of his 15 years with Buck’s Chimney Service, Dave was certified through the Chimney Service Institute of America. Bob and Dave became a regional reference for service as well as trouble shooting fireplace issues and chimney repairs. Over the 15 years, the word of mouth for the service and knowledge extended sometimes statewide, sometimes past our states borders. Dave’s wife Janelle came on board the last 8 years and suddenly Bob’s health issues, caused the company to dissolve. Bob was forced to retire for medical reasons, and Dave and his wife decided to try other ventures for a while. After a few years passed, Dave found more and more customers seeking him out. Before they knew it, things just worked out. It all fell into place once again. Dave’s Chimney Service, LLC was born and serving all of Central Arkansas once again.
October is National Fire Safety month, so what a time to launch a Chimney Service! Dave’s credentials and experience are top notch. You may ask what it means to be Nationally Certified. Just like an electrician, plumber, or any other specialty, fire burning structures have codes and certifications as well. In some states, a Certified Chimney company is required for chimney sweeping and inspections. This isn’t required in Arkansas, however some homeowner insurance companies have started to require this for homes with stoves and fireplaces. There’s a lot of numbers and measurements and mumbo jumbo that can’t be put into this little article, so I will just say…HE KNOWS A LOT OF STUFF! If you are putting a fire in an open hole in your house, you don’t just need it cleaned, you want to know it’s safe to put that match in there. Fireplaces are a big draw this time of year, but Dave also cleans dryer vents. These are also big fire safety issues, and many of his past customers scheduled both at the same time.
Dave is running a one man show right now, so he won’t be taking on the major stove installs and chimney repairs, but if they are needed, he has reputable people to refer for that. Dave is still Certified, as well as licensed and insured. This isn’t a part time gig, Dave takes his business very seriously. He also services, sells and installs gas logs, along with stove and fireplace sweeps, level 1 fireplace inspections, dryer vent sweeping, and minor repairs. As a continued family-run business, he is proud to serve Saline County and surrounding areas, keeping everyone warm and safe!
