The City of Benton Personnel/Health & Safety Committee met Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall with one agenda item, pertaining to an empty City Council seat.
Committee members each received resumes from nine applicants for the open City Council (Alderman) in seat Ward 2, Position 1. Discussion then went to which questions should be asked in an upcoming interview of the applicants. The last of applicants is as follows (alphabetical):
- Patricia Ashley
- Glynda Brinsfield
- Jocelyn Cash
- Willie Floyd
- Robin Freeman
- Shane Knight
- Leslie Kowalski
- Quinn Marshall
- Martha Slaughter
The interviews are to take place all in one night, beginning at 6 p.m. on Thursday, June 22nd. Applicants will each be asked the same six questions in a space of 15 minutes and given 5 extra minutes for any other statements. Applicants will be interviewed individually and will not know the questions prior to the interviews. Meanwhile, other applicants will be in another room and asked to refrain from phone use. This is because the public is invited and social media and texting may be used, thereby divulging questions and answers.
The order of interviews will be determined by the City Human Resources Director. The Personnel Committee plans for the successful applicant to be confirmed as the new/replacement Alderman at the next City Council meeting after the interviews. Ward 2 is denoted in the illustration below, in the salmon pink area in the south half of the city limits of Benton.
