The organization that wrote the grant to restore the Old River Bridge just won a big honor. The restored bridge will be a critical link in the proposed Southwest Trail, a multi-use trail from Little Rock to Hot Springs, providing the Saline River crossing for the trail while preserving an important piece of transportation history. Central Arkansas Planning and Development District, Inc. (CAPDD) is one of the recipients of a 2024 Aliceann Wohlbruck Impact Award from the National Association of Development Organizations (NADO) for the Saline County Old River Bridge Revitalization Project.
The Old River Bridge was built in 1889 and will be returned at its original location over the Saline River between Haskell and Benton. It was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1977. It is also on the list of Most Endangered Historic Places.
