Saline County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) Corporal Mike Bowden was recently honored by the Cooper-Anthony Mercy Child Advocacy Center for his efforts in the arrest and conviction of a child abuse suspect.
The Patrick McCruden Super Hero Award is awarded annually to a law enforcement officer who has gone above and beyond their typical duties to ensure the protection of children in their community. Cpl. Bowden was recognized for his meticulous investigation and expert testimony that was instrumental in securing a conviction and 42-year prison sentence for a man who had raped three children.
Patrick McCruden, the namesake for the award, lead the way for the establishment of the Child Advocacy Centers within the Mercy Health network. The Centers provide no-cost counseling, medical and support services for children who are victims of abuse or neglect.
