A young man was arrested in Bryant on Tuesday, February 7th, with charges including having a gun on Bryant High School property.
According to the report from Bryant Police Department, Officer Chad Winkler was patrolling high school parking lot when he observed a vehicle in the driveway that is meant for buses only. The officer stated that he drove toward the vehicle but the driver sped away down Wise Street and blew through the stop sign to turn onto NW 4th Street.
The officer states that he caught up to the vehicle at the NW 4th and Reynolds Road. “The vehicle started pulling into Boswell Law Firm parking lot before I initiated my emergency lights. I made the traffic stop and contacted dispatch. I approached the vehicle and noticed the driver, Quadaurise Dunn, age 18, holding his hands up.
“I made contact with Dunn and he stated I know its a stolen vehicle, but its mine. Dunn explained the situation that occurred earlier when he reported the vehicle stolen. I assured Dunn that everything was going to be okay and we would figure it out. I asked Dunn if there were any weapons in the vehicle. Dunn stated yes, there’s a pistol under my seat.”
Officer Winkler states that he placed Dunn in handcuffs and advised him to wait by my bumper while he retrieved the weapon. Winkler says he located a Taurus 9mm under the front passenger seat with a live round in the chamber.
Dunn stated that he went to meet his brother and get money to buy him some food. Officer Winkler advised Dunn that he could smell marijuana coming from the vehicle. Dunn stated that there was none in the vehicle but agreed to a search.
Winkler stated that during the search, he found two pistol magazines – one regular magazine in the console and an extended magazine in the glove box. The report states that both magazines were fully loaded with ammunition (36 rounds). It also says marijuana shake was located in the passenger seat area.
Dunn was charged with • 5-73-119 – Possession of a weapon on school grounds (D/F) • 5-39-203 – Criminal trespassing (A/M) and • 27-51-601 – Failure to stop at a stop sign (C/M). Dunn was transported to the Saline County Jail by Officer Kayla Potts. Dunn was Booked on Wednesday, February 8, 2023 at 12:18 a.m. and released on Thursday, February 9, 202 at 9:08 a.m.
The pistol was photographed and placed into evidence to be sent to the State Crime Lab. Bryant School administration was advised of the situation.
