During a press conference today, Gov. Asa Hutchinson announced that nine new counties have been added onto the presumptive positive list for the COVID-19 virus, bringing the presumptive positive cases to 62 Arkansans.
The increase in positive cases is due in part to the increase in testing, but it is also a reflection of how quickly the current pandemic can spread within communities.
To assist in combating the further spread of the COVID-19 virus, the State of Arkansas has declared:
- K-12 schools will not reopen until at least April 17;
- Restaurants and bars are limited to curbside or delivery service only;
- Hospitals, clinics and mental health offices must screen visitors prior to entrance; and
- Gyms and recreational facilities are closed (except for medically essential services).
As the City of Bryant continues efforts to protect citizens, please remember to:
- Continue the practice of social distancing;
- Be aware of the location of your children at all times and who they are with;
- Educate children on the importance of avoiding group activities;
- Avoid groups, if at all possible; and
- Enjoy family outdoor time that will keep you distanced from others, allow for outdoor enjoyment.
“The City of Bryant strongly believes that these directives are important to ensuring the health of our citizens,” said Mayor Allen Scott. “We urge residents to support local businesses as much as possible to protect the economic viability of our great city.”
Scott commended residents that have already went above and beyond to provide meals for students, providing meals for senior citizens, educators for offering online assistance and many other community-minded efforts.
“It is times like these that our great residents always go above and beyond to show the rest of the state why Bryant, Arkansas is the best community in our great state,” said Bryant City Council Member Rob Roedel. “I commend our citizens for adhering to the Center of Disease Control advice, while doing what we all do to serve our fellow citizens.”
