US Congressman French Hill (R-AR) visited the Bryant Boys and Girls Club on Monday and toured the property, located at 6401 Boone Rd. Club CEO Suzanne Passmore showed Hill around the rooms and talked about the activities available and the current needs. The club was temporary closed by the the government, due to the pandemic, but has been able to partially re-open.
Passmore stated that their normal amount of children enrolled is around 600, but they are currently only allowed 100 by the Center for Disease Control (CDC). Many clubs are only allowed 50 children, but because the Bryant club is larger, they were allowed more. Passmore said that various Boys and Girls Clubs across the nation have had to close for good due to the inability to stay solvent with so few children.
During the tour of the facility, Passmore noted that the club is in need of computers in their IT lab. What they do have for the kids is an array of activities, including photography, robotics, dance, 3D printing, sports, fishing, reading, and more. The club relies on volunteers to become helpers and mentors or just speakers to the kids. If you would like to get involved, call (501) 653-5437.
