Bryant Public Schools will offer more business transportation options this school year for elementary students. In the past, students living within a two-mile radius of their schools were not eligible to ride the bus.
Students in kindergarten through 6th grade will now be allowed to ride a bus regardless of how close they live to their schools. Safety has long been a concern for younger students crossing multi-lane roadways and walking on streets without sidewalks. Construction has also been an issue. Buses will now be making fewer stops off Alcoa Road and Highway 5 and making more stops in these and other neighborhoods. When possible, elementary students will have designated bus stops in their neighborhoods and ride only with elementary-aged students.
The two-mile radius, however, still applies to students in grades 6-12. With the addition of elementary only buses, most older students willbe dropped off in the afternoon before their younger siblings.
By offering new and safer options, the district is encouraging families to consider the benefits of bus transportation. Buses are proven to be the safest form of transportation; Bryant Schools has an outstanding safety record. Elementary students will board buses and arrive at school earlier, allowing parents to leave for work sooner. More students on buses mean better traffic flow for everyone!
