A mother and son were arrested by Benton Police officers (BNPD) after someone reported the kidnapping of a woman over the weekend. Officers came to a Jefferson Street residence at approximately 4:00 p.m. Sunday, June 11, 2022 to investigate.
Cody Granville Brooks, age 28, of Sheridan, allegedly forced his way into the residence and punched one of the occupants then kidnapped Mandi Kret, age 22, and drove away.
Kret was later returned to the residence by Brooks’ mother, Kerrie Whitaker, age 47, of Sheridan. Police say She was determined to be involved in the initial kidnapping after further investigation.
Whitaker was taken into custody Sunday afternoon and charged with:
- Kidnapping- Class B felony;
- Residential Burglary- Class B felony; and
- Assault on a Family or Household member- Class B misdemeanor.
Brooks was taken into custody Monday afternoon and is facing charges of:
- Kidnapping- Class B felony;
- Residential Burglary- Class B felony;
- Domestic Battery 3rd Degree- Class D felony; and
- Battery 3rd Degree- Class A misdemeanor.
- He was also served a warrant for a probation violation out of Saline County.
