If you were looking for MySaline.com Tuesday or Wednesday, April 16 and 17, you may have found something unexpected – like an error message, instead of the normal fabulous coverage of news and events that you might expect.
It wasn’t hacked. The truth is, I broke it.
I wanted to switch the website to a one-column view on desktop computers like it is on mobile devices, so I was checking out web templates. I previewed one, then realized, “Hey woops, that was to the Go Live button, not the Preview button.” So I quickly switched back to the previous template. That did not make things better.
The MySaline website has a lot of content on it, going back to 2007. So the switch to one thing and back to another was like going out to Interstate 30 and moving the barrier wall to send rush hour traffic into a new lane, only to say, “nope, nevermind,” and move it back really quickly. A crash was inevitable. And the rush hour traffic is everyone that looks at MySaline.com.
Well obviously, you’re reading this, so you can see that the website is back, thanks to the wonderful people at Pleth, who host it for us. So the next thing has been me trying to remember all the little customizations I had going. Please if you would, have a look around and click and go to places you would and wouldn’t normally go on the website, then let me know if something looks weird or is missing. You can comment on this article, or email us at [email protected].
Meanwhile, look for the one-column site to show up soon. Some of you may never see a difference, since about 80% of our site visits come from mobile. But it’s coming. We’re here doing our best for you, and we hope you value the work. -Shelli
