Update: What’s ahead for Big Red, and what’s behind Big Red

If you were wondering when the Big Red Store is going to open at Longhills, it’s already open, but the grand opening is coming.

We told you in March that Summerwood Partners LLC had a property under construction near Tops Shoes on Interstate 30. The location boasts a drive-thru for coffee and food. You can enter the parking lot on the south end from the I-30 Frontage Road, or on the north end from Highway 5 North.

Developments coming soon to Benton and Bryant.

There are a couple of private developments under construction right now – both connected to Arkansas Highway 5 North, and both projects by Summerwood Partners LLC – better known as Big Red.

Owned by brothers David and Doug Hendrix, Big Red Stores have populated themselves over the State of Arkansas since 1997, with more than 40 stores, and there are a couple more in the works right now. One of the new stores will be in Hot Springs, and one will be in Benton. You may have seen the progress in Benton, because that particular location will be accessible from Interstate 30’s Frontage Road just beyond Ditch Witch, as well as from Highway 5 North, across from Longhills Wine & Spirits.

Look a few miles to the east on Hwy 5 N, and you’ll see the other construction project. Look behind an already-built Big Red Store at the intersection of 5 and Bryant Parkway. For years, Big Red has kept their headquarters on Reynolds Road near Prickett Road. A time will come soon that they will move it to nestle behind that Parkway store. But that’s not all.

New developments are happening just behind this Big Red location at Hwy 5 N and Bryant Parkway.

And this one was not the answer I expected to hear from the Hendrix family. Yvonne Hendrix is Marketing Director for Big Red, and married to Doug Hendrix. She stated that they are building three gyms for basketball, volleyball and more. She said the gyms will be available for tournaments, skills and drills. They hope to be finished with that construction by the end of 2022.
