UPDATE – JULY 31, 2020, 3:10PM:
Benton Police Department detectives have identified the suspect in the July 23rd hit-and-run incident near the 17700 block of I-30 that took the life of 28-year-old Louisiana resident Dustin Thompson.
The suspect’s identity and charges will be released next week pending further case review. As such, the investigation remains ongoing.

Benton Police Detectives released pictures from the hit-and-run incident by the Interstate last week. They are looking for information to identify the responsible party.
Some photo stills were captured just moments before impact, and include the suspect’s vehicle (blurry and distant) and a views of an 18-wheeler that was behind the suspect vehicle. The hope is that someone will recognize the blurred logo on the truck.
The incident occurred approximately 9 p.m. Thursday evening, July 23rd.
Contact BNPD at 501-778-1171 if you see a vehicle matching the description of the suspect vehicle. It’s a dark color 1998-2003 GMC Sierra pickup truck. It might be in your neighborhood, around town, by body shop owners, etc. Also call if you recognize the logo on the 18-wheeler.

Benton Police Department detectives have identified the victim in the hit-and-run incident reported Friday morning near the 17700 block of I-30.
Dustin Thompson, 28, of Alexandria, Louisiana, was confirmed to have left Dollar Tree on Military Road just before 9 p.m. Thursday. Video footage obtained from surrounding businesses and evidence analysis confirms that he was struck shortly thereafter by a dark color 1998-2003 GMC Sierra pickup truck.
The vehicle was travelling west bound and sustained damage to the grill and right front quarter panel and headlight. The investigation remains ongoing.

The body of an adult male was found deceased beside the highway on Friday morning, according to Benton Police Department (BNPD). The location is between the frontage road and Interstate 30 Westbound, just before Exit 117. It is an apparent hit and run. Map and more photos below.
