This fall, the Benton Police Department will host a their Citizen’s Police Academy course for the 13th year. This is a program for residents to find out what a police officer’s duty entails, the training they must undergo, and the situations they face.
Participants will experience criminal investigation, patrol functions, narcotic investigations, school resource, crime prevention, traffic stops, K-9, and the gun range. The classes are designed to be fun and informative.
The classes will take place on six Tuesday nights and one Saturday (Sep. 27, Oct. 4, Oct. 11, Oct. 18, Oct. 25 and graduation on Nov. 1). The Saturday (range day) will be set at a later date.
Anyone who is interested in participating in the class may stop by the Benton Police Department, at 114 S. East St., Suite 100, and fill out an application and release forms. The only qualifications are that the participant is at least 18 years of age and cannot have any previous felony convictions on their record. Deadline to turn in applications will be Tuesday, September 20th.
