A man traveling through Benton by bus allegedly stabbed a convenience store worker after being accused of shoplifting. The suspect is currently in custody at the Saline County Detention Center.
Benton Police Department responded to 7801 Alcoa Road (Pilot Travel Center) just after 8:45 a.m. on Thursday, January 26th. There were reports of an employee being stabbed following a shoplifting incident. The suspect fled the scene before officers arrived, but was located nearby. Benton Police took the man into custody with assistance from Bryant Police Department and Arkansas State Police.
The suspect, Tiequail Brown, age 31, had boarded a bus in Dallas on its way to Denver. During a stop at the Pilot Travel Center, Brown became combative when confronted by store employees and asked to return stolen merchandise. One store employee was stabbed by Brown as a result. That employee was transported for treatment with injuries that were not life-threatening. Brown was treated for a minor injury sustained in the struggle and was cleared to be transported to jail.
He faces multiple charges stemming from the incident:
Aggravated Robbery, a Class Y Felony;
3 counts of Aggravated Assault, a Class D Felony;
Battery 2 nd , a Class D Felony;
4 counts of Terroristic Threatening 1st , a Class D Felony;
Resisting Arrest, a Class A Misdemeanor,
Theft of Property, a Class A Misdemeanor; and
Obstruction of Governmental Operations, a Class A Misdemeanor.
