The Benton Parks and Recreation Department is pleased to announce its partnership with Amputees Beyond Life’s Expectations (ABLE).
ABLE is a non-profit corporation which has provided services in the form of training, instructions and support for people with prosthetic devices.
Over the last year the Benton Parks and Recreation staff has focused on inclusion and accessibility. Not only is the focus on the amenities throughout the parks system, with the addition of new pathways and playgrounds, it has been towards serving those in the community with physical and cognitive disabilities by offering programming options.
“We are excited about the partnership with ABLE.” said Stephanie Jones, Director of Benton Parks and Recreation. “It is important that all youth and adults know there are programs and facilities available to them. Our teams focus has been inclusion and being able to offer these events and programs to the community. The parks staff has gone above and beyond my expectations and I am very proud of the work they have done over the last year.”
ABLE will partner with the Parks Department on a local 5K and run clinic. Proceeds will go directly to ABLE and will help purchase a running prostheses for a participant in the community.
“We are so thankful that Benton Parks and Recreation has agreed to partner with us on this run clinic for amputees. Partnering with such a great Department will give us the resources to teach amputees how to run. So many have that goal and do not know how to achieve it.” Said Chris Horton, founder of ABLE.
