Benton Parks and Recreation is announced Tuesday they were award $58,000 inclusive playground grant by GameTime, a company that has been building playgrounds since 1929. GameTime has sets aside significant playground grant funds toward the purchase of new playground systems. The play structure will provide a fun experience for individuals of all ability levels.
“Studies show that a child’s experience is enhanced by the inclusion of friends and family,” stated Stephanie Jones, Parks and Recreation Director for the City of Benton. “We are excited to finally make this vision a reality within our community. Any playground improvements or renovations, in our local parks, moving forward will have inclusive amenities.”
The playground will be located on the site of the existing (smaller) playground at Tyndall Park. This enhanced project will include elements such as ramps, inclusive play amenities and full solid surfacing for easier access.
The Parks Department had the opportunity to speak with kids in CBI (Cognitive Behavioral Intervention) classes at Caldwell, Howard Perrin, Angie Grant and Benton Middle School to give the kids an opportunity to select certain playground amenities to incorporate into the structure.
The Department is also hopeful to schedule “Let’s ALL Play” training, through the National Inclusion Project, which will give them the tools they need to kick start adaptive programming.
