The Panthers took their second conference champion title in a row this past Friday. Despite not having the All-Conference starting quarterback Drew Davis, the offense still rolled. Sophomore quarterback Chase Cobb was spectacular in relief, passing for 332 yards and 3 touchdowns and rushing for another.
Senior WR Maddox Davis stepped up in the absence of Senior WR Elias Payne, hauling in 10 passes for 242 yards and 2 touchdowns. He also threw a 19-yard touchdown pass to Bryson Griffis for the last score of the game. The elite passing game was accompanied by a strong run game as Senior RB Luther Tucker III ran for 3 touchdowns and over 70 yards.
The defense came in clutch as well as they held the Patriots to just 10 points. Senior LB Walter Hicks led the team in tackles with Senior Safties J. Thomas Pepper and Tyson Jordan following close behind with 8 and 7 tackles respectively.
The Panthers also forced two turnovers as Senior CB O’Marcus King had a pick and Senior DL Ty Matyja forced a fumble.
The Panthers will enjoy a much-deserved first-round bye this week as Coach Harris and the team prepare to make another state championship run.
