The Panthers took on 7A opponent North Little Rock Friday, September 13th, looking for a bounce-back win after losing to Bryant.
All eyes were on Junior quarterback Drew Davis after a 4-turnover performance in the Salt Bowl 2 weeks ago. In Response, Davis hurled for over 240 yards and 3 touchdowns in a much-improved rebound win against the Wildcats.
Junior receiver Karson Collatt racked up 118 yards and two touchdowns. Senior receivers: Maddox Davis and Elias Payne each hauled in a touchdown and caught for 60 and 53 yards respectively.
Not only was Benton’s passing game on point, but the Panthers also excelled on the ground. Sophomore running back T.J. Williams ran for over 95 yards and 2 touchdowns on just 8 attempts. Williams was also a factor in the air attack as he logged 2 receptions for 60 yards.
The Benton offense looked good but the defense looked great.
Senior J. Thomas Pepper led the team in tackles, picking off the North Little Rock quarterback once, and Sophomore linebacker Weston Monson tallied a sack. Senior defensive back Omarcus King also blocked a Charging Wildcat extra point to help prevent a late North Little Rock rally.
The Wildcats were held to only 2 touchdowns and were dominated by the Panthers’ rush defense as North Little Rock was limited to 33 rushing yards on 22 attempts.
The Benton Panthers overpowered the North Little Rock Charging Wildcats 42-13 in the first home game of the season.
