The Benton City Council will meet to discuss several items on Monday. One involves the possibility of making better access to businesses. This item proposes a street that would connect the south frontage road with Military Road. It’s not set in stone, but there is a grant that would pay for 80% of the project.
According to City Councilman Shane Knight, the road, if it materializes, would start just to the right of Back Yard Burgers. It would have its own intersection, not likely to connect with the current traffic signal that leads to the Post Office. From Military, the road would stretch between the Kroger shopping center and the Big Lots shopping center, then down the hill and to the frontage road next to the Exit 118 off-ramp.

Knight stated this new road would open the way for more out-of-town shoppers and eaters, as well as alleviate rush hour congestion on Military Road. It would also make the long vacant property at the frontage road more attractive for new businesses, said Knight.
The meeting is Monday, August 28, 2023. The agenda meeting will begin at 5:30 p.m. and Council meeting will immediately follow. The topics are a new commissioner, a cemetery, water fees, Habitat, some officers, PD gear, surplus, budget shift, pumps, new streets (we already talked about that), and street funds.
The Benton Municipal Complex is located at 114 S. East Street.
