A Benton man was arrested in connection with several recent break-ins.
Benton Police Department responded to A2Z Collision in reference to a breaking or entering in progress at approximately 10:30 p.m. Wednesday. The suspect, identified as David Welch, age 36, of Benton, was apprehended at the scene.
He was transported to the Saline County Jail and charged with Commercial Burglary, three counts of Breaking or Entering, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Criminal Mischief First Degree, all felonies, as well as misdemeanor Theft of Property. BNPD Criminal Investigations Division has assumed the investigation, which remains ongoing. Additional charges may be forthcoming.
Captain Eric Haworth noted that calls such as this one bring to light the importance of citizens reporting suspicious activity. “We are always patrolling and always looking for suspicious subjects and activity,” he said, “but we simply cannot be everywhere at all times, so it really is a partnership with the community. It’s a good rule of thumb to call rather than not when you see something that just doesn’t add up.”
