(Left to right) Susie Everett joined Mayor Mattingly for the final announcement of a new Infiniti dealership coming to Benton.
Benton Mayor David Mattingly called a press conference Thursday morning, August 18, 2016 to make three special announcements.
The first announcement is about the widening of Alcoa Road from the interstate to Benton Parkway. Mattingly stated that the Cities of Benton and Bryant, as well as Saline County are done with moving utilities and are done with right-of-way acquisition except for two properties. That means they are nearly ready to start the actual construction. Mattingly noted that there has been a bid opening and Weaver Bailey Construction has a bid amount of $14.6 million, while McClelland Engineering bid $1.46 million for the necessary inspections. These bids will be presented to City Council for approval on Monday, August 22, 2016 at 7pm.
Announcement #2 is about the city millage. This word usually makes people cringe, but Mattingly successfully worked last year to lower Benton residents’ millage from 4.5 to 4.1, and this year, he wants to do it again for a final millage number of 3.7. Mattingly will present this to City Council also on Monday night.
The third announcement is about business, construction, jobs and cars. The Everett family who runs Everett Buick GMC, among other dealerships, has worked with the car maker Infiniti to bring their luxury brand to Benton. This new dealership will be located on Interstate 30, just east of Kroger Marketplace and just west of Dick Moody Crane. Or… right across the Interstate from the Buick GMC dealership. Groundbreaking for this project is expected in 2017, with opening expected in 2018.
