A Bauxite woman was arrested on several charges, stemming from activity with students at Bauxite Schools where she was employed as a paraprofessional.
In early February, Saline County Sheriff’s Office School Resource Officer assigned to Bauxite High School was notified of an incident involving a paraprofessional providing a student with a vape cartridge.
The woman, Mecila Ashley Barnett, age 48, was given a citation for Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor. According to the SCSO, Barnett then resigned from her position and was escorted from school property.

After further investigation into the incident, it was revealed that Barnett provided controlled substances to a student on a previous occasion. Officers then obtained a warrant and arrested Barnett. She is charged with the following:
Providing Minors with Tobacco Products,
Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor,
Endangering the Welfare of Minor,
Tampering with Physical Evidence,
Delivery of a Schedule IV or Schedule V Controlled Substance, and
Delivery of a Schedule VI Controlled Substance.
