A Mabelvale teen was killed in a wreck following a high-speed pursuit over the weekend.

Late Saturday night, North Little Rock Police officers requested Arkansas State Police (ASP) assistance. This was just before 11 p.m. on March 29, 2025.
The pursuit began on Interstate 40 near the Morgan/Maumelle exit. According to a strategy from ASP, the subject vehicle was traveling with headlights off at speeds exceeding 120 mph.
ASP Troopers joined the pursuit near the 145 mile-marker. The suspect driver reached 130 mph before taking Exit 142 onto Highway 365.
The driver, later was identified as John Bruce Martinez, age 19, of Mabelvale. The report states he lost control of the vehicle and left the roadway, striking several trees. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Three other 17-year-old passengers, all from Mabelvale, were transported to Children’s Hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.
