There’s a freeze watch in effect for Thursday night, October 31 until Friday morning at 9 a.m., according to the National Weather Service in Little Rock.
Sub-freezing temperatures are possible in portions of central, eastern, north central, southeast and southwest Arkansas.
Frost and freeze conditions could kill crops, other sensitive vegetation and possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing.
Rain will gradually taper off tonight as low pressure departs the region. Gusty northwest winds behind the storm system will usher colder air into Arkansas. Sustained wind speeds of 15 to 25 mph will be common later tonight, with gusts of 30 mph possible.
By dawn Thursday, a freeze is likely in portions of the Ozark and Ouachita Mountains of the north and west. In these areas, precipitation may end as a brief period of freezing drizzle.
Gusty northwest winds will continue on Thursday. Gusts to 30 mph will be noted in places. Freezing temperatures are expected over much of the area Friday morning. Some of the areas in central and south Arkansas have not had a freeze yet and extra care should be given to plants and tender vegetation.
