The National Weather Service in Little Rock is preparing for Hurricane Delta to lift northward across the Gulf of Mexico on Thursday. They say it should be making landfall along the Louisiana coast before turning to the northeast into the ArkLaMiss region into the weekend.
TIMING
It is expected to bring impacts to the southeastern half of Arkansas late Friday through early Sunday.
RAIN
Heavy rainfall, with a large swath of 2 to 5 inches is expected. Amounts of 5 to 6 inches will be possible closer to the Mississippi River.
WINDS
Gusty winds will accompany the heavier rain bands with sustained winds of 15 to 25 mph expected with gusts to near 40 mph.
TORNADOS
The tornado threat will be minimal across the state.
WHERE
The Delta region of Arkansas will experience the greatest impacts. Delta is expected to strengthen into a major hurricane Thursday night as it lifts northward into the northern Gulf of Mexico.
Impacts to Arkansas depend on the future track of this system, a shift to the west would increase impacts across Arkansas whereas a shift to the east would limit impacts.
Impacts across the northwestern half of Arkansas appear minimal at this time.
