A heat advisory is still in effect today, but we can expect some relief soon.
According to the National Weather Service in Little Rock, our [now daily] heat advisory will be in effect from July 26, 1:00 – 8:00 p.m., but there is rain creeping in that may be here as early as Wednesday.
Hazardous heat will persist around the state today with air temperatures expected to reach the upper 90s to 100 degrees or more. Heat index values at most locations will also likely top 105 degrees or more by this afternoon.
Isolated showers and storms will be possible across northern Arkansas later this afternoon, although any severe threat will remain very low and isolated with hail and strong winds the primary threats.
Wildfire danger remains increased as drought conditions persist. Be sure to avoid burning or creating sparks as small grass fires have been a daily occurrence around the region.
Hot and humid conditions should persist through at least the middle of this week. Highs will continue in the mid 90s to just over 100 each day, and heat index values of 100 up to around 110 are likely.
Some locations may see heat index values exceed 110 at times. Chances for more numerous showers and thunderstorms increase by late this week into the weekend as a cold front stalls over Arkansas.
Widespread organized severe weather is not expected through Monday, however damaging winds would be the primary hazard with any strong storms.
