Showers and thunderstorms will continue to move through portions of northern and central Arkansas through Thursday morning and early afternoon hours, according to the National Weather Service in Little Rock.
Damaging winds and small hail will be possible with these storms – however, the threat for hazardous weather remains low. Heavy rainfall could also lead to some isolated flash flooding.
A heat advisory remains in effect from 1-7 pm Thursday. Expect heat index values up to 109 in portions of central, eastern, north central, southeast, southwest and western Arkansas. Hot temperatures and high humidity could cause heat illnesses to occur.
Scattered thunderstorms are expected through the weekend. Isolated strong to severe storms will be possible. Any flash flooding will be localized.
It appears hot and humid conditions may return next week, as a ridge of high pressure tries to build over Arkansas from the southern Plains. Heat index values may exceed 105 degrees in central and eastern sections of the state by Tuesday or Wednesday.
