Showers and thunderstorms are expected to return to Arkansas on Valentine’s Day (Tuesday), Ave not just because you waited until the last minute to get a gift. However the threat for hazardous weather appears low.
Strong and gusty southerly winds will also be seen across the state. Sustained wind speeds of 20 to 30 mph will be possible, along with gusts in excess of 30 to 40 mph.
Another round of showers and thunderstorms is expected Wednesday afternoon into the first half of Thursday. This round of storms could produce strong to severe thunderstorms, with all severe hazards possible.
An area-wide wind advisory is currently in effect. Strong and sustained winds of 25 to 30 mph and gusts in excess of 40 mph are expected through the day and into the overnight hours Tuesday night.
Recent heavy rainfall and ice accumulation across much of the state has led to a very saturated ground surface. Persistent excessive winds could lead to more area tree damage, and possibly area power outages.
Wednesday, scattered showers and storms are expected to increase in coverage as the next storm system approaches the state. A few strong to severe storms will be possible, with large hail, and damaging winds the primary hazards. A few tornadoes cannot be ruled out either.
