There’s a lot of talk on social media about snow, and there’s no denying that Saline County’s weather will change significantly on Tuesday, but the white stuff is mostly for the part of the state that is several miles north and west of Interstate 30. Having said that, we’ll be updating if anything changes, as it frequently does with winter weather.
The National Weather Service in Little Rock has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for a large portion of Arkansas. Look for the bold words below so you can skip to your interest.??❄️ On Tuesday afternoon thru Wednesday morning, a strong storm system is forecast to move through. Mixed wintry precip may fall over portions of central Arkansas as well, but no accumulations or impacts are expected.
For the chest, arms and head of Saline County, this will most likely present as mixed precipitation – maybe a little snow or sleet along with a little rain. For the tummy and legs of Saline County (really I’m just saying it like this to see who’s reading), look for cold and rain but probably no winter precip.
It’s a different story for western, northwestern, and western Arkansas. The system will bring widespread snowfall to these areas. There could be snow accumulations of 7-10 inches over much of far northwestern and northern Arkansas. What’s more, look for 10-12 inches, maybe more in the higher terrain of the Boston Mountains.
Portions of western Arkansas and the higher terrain of the Ouachitas are expected to see 2-4 inches in the lower elevation regions, and upwards of 5-7 inches along the higher peaks, with locally greater amounts possible.
Impacts are expected to be the most significant in tandem with the highest snow accumulations. Wet and heavy snow is expected with this system, and will likely lead to rapidly deteriorating road conditions, making travel extremely hazardous across much of northwestern Arkansas, and portions of Western Arkansas on Tuesday evening through early Wednesday morning.
